Vehicle Into River Leads to Technical Rescue Recovery of Body

February 19, 2022 — Just after 4:30 PM on Saturday Engine 17 and Medic 17 of Pollock Pines and Division 7705 responded to a single vehicle accident on Highway 50 east of Ice House Road. Firefighters arrived to find a single pickup truck off of the roadway, resting in the South Fork American River. 

Firefighters made access to the vehicle and entered the water to check for victims. One occupant had been ejected from the vehicle. Paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at scene. Firefighters remained at scene and utilized a low-angle rope rescue system to assist law enforcement with removal of the victim's body from the difficult to access river bank. 

CAL FIRE also assisted. with the incident. California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The identity of the victim has not been released by the El Dorado County Sheriff Coroner.
